In filmmaking, it certainly helps when the director knows the subject matter of his film. And longtime Santa Cruzan Joshua Pomer knows the subject of his new film about as well as he knows anything. Pomer's new film "The Westsiders," to be shown Saturday and Monday as part of this year's Santa Cruz Film Festival, focuses on the life stories of three guys that have been Pomer's buddies since they were all kids on the Westside. It just so happened that those three Westsiders all grew up to be Santa Cruz surfing icons. [more]
